Research & Development
WSU’s International Research & Agricultural Development office specializes in establishing community-oriented initiatives aimed at poverty alleviation in post-conflict regions around the world.
IRAD’s research efforts are conducted within disciplines of involvement that best reflect WSU’s world-class expertise: agriculture, biological systems engineering, civil and environmental engineering, natural resource sciences, health, and business and enterprise development.
Our development initiatives focus on:
- enhancing rural livelihoods by increasing agricultural productivity, food security, and incomes;
- identifying & developing opportunities to establish financially viable enterprises at the village level in producing, processing and marketing agricultural & natural resource products;
- improving the management & economic use of watersheds and natural resources on public, private and communal lands;
- developing a better scientific, economic, & socio-political understanding of agro-ecosystems and their global inter-relationships.
